LOS ANGELES, CA - FEB. 3, 2010: Art teacher Lilia Ramirez, 38, of Boyle Heights, wears an angel costume while asking the Los Angeles City Council to not cut the city arts programs as they discussed the prosed 1,000 city employees layoff recommendation. Ramirez said art changed her life. (Allen J. Schaben / Los Angeles Times)
Yup. Y’all did it. A concentrated effort by those “lazy” artists, coming out enmasse and telling “the man” what it’s all about.
And they decided not to cut off the funding and the Cultural Affairs Department has been saved.
For now.
We are in an economic crisis and – as the Council and others have suggested – Arts groups need to be looking towards private funding more and more because the State is just not going to be able to get it done.
I find this to be a positive development.
So stay tuned. But for now. Well done, y’all.

Thanks to everyone who participated! Wish I could have been there!
