Theatre Etiquette. Period.

Eric Hanson illustrationSorry, this bullshit that there’s a different etiquette for Los Angeles as opposed to other cities doesn’t wash with me.

You talk while I’m watching a show I’ll rip you a new asshole and sell you the sewing kit to stitch it up.

You’re texting during a show and I’m sitting anywhere in the vicinity, I’ll ask you once to stop nicely, if you don’t…see above.

Late arrivals. Fine. Doesn’t mean I’m going to make it the standard. It’s hard enough filling a house. But I rarely go past 8:15pm.

Idiots in New York gave standing ovations for Miss Saigon and Phantom of the Opera as well.

There is Theatre Etiquette and it is a universal standard. It doesn’t change because you’re rude or an idiot or happen to live Southern California.

Your screed makes me smile. Over on our site (shameless plug) our writer P.C. Clarke wrote a very similar piece. You can read it on our spiffy new, completely redesigned site: http://www.latheatrereview.com/link.asp?smenu=88&sdetail=144&wpage=1
