More Props

Yikes. I guess I’m a little behind (or so my wife reminds me…that I have one…not that I am one…er…) on Steven Leigh Morris givin’ up some props for Bitter Lemons. Apparently he’s been virtually “gushing”. Kinda.
Yesterday I linked to this post from December (yesterday actually), but upon further review I found THIS post from November where our humble site – and this humble poster – is also mentioned. Scroll down to the Nov. 26th entry entitled “Critic O’Meter” and drink it in. Here’s a little taste:
It’s not as dynamic as Colin Mitchell’s L.A.-based website about critics, Bitter Lemons, in which Mitchell not only surveys critical opinions on currently running shows in L.A., he throws in ponderings via occasional posts aptly named “ponderings,” on matters germane to the causes and effects of people’s opinions about people’s opinions about theater productions.
Dynamic. That’s right! Again, many thanks just for popping by and reading, Steven. And again, I tend to agree with much of what you’re saying.
And thank you for noticing that Bitter Lemons is much more, or at least ASPIRES to be much more than just a “consumer report” or “consumer review” site. I’ll admit that I am trying to “give the people what they want”, if you will, in this attention-deficit, Costco-Wal-Mart kind of world, providing a one-stop shopping spot for the LA Theatre audience; but even more I am trying to accomplish two far more imporant tasks; one, to start and CONTINUE a dialogue between the theatre artist, the theatre critic and the theatre audience, and two, elevate Los Angeles Theatre to its rightful place at this present moment in American Theatre History.
But thanks for this Steven:
Mitchell, however, does engage his readers in a kind of dialogue that keeps calling into question the purpose of and crisis in drama criticism, so that the reviews themselves are nuggets of evidence about larger ideas. Well, sometimes he goes there, and I like it when he does.
Hey, it’s how I roll. And I don’t intend on changing. The rest a youze come on down and join the conversation.
Out.
